The universal charger is coming !

Différents types de chargeurs

It was on the cards,  and is now becoming a reality !

In autumn 2024, USB Type-C will become the common charging port for all tablets, mobile phones  and cameras in the European Union.

Enforcing legislation on the sale of a universal charger across Europe had been on the cards for 15 years.

Enforcing legislation on the sale of a universal charger across Europe had been on the cards for 15 years.

This desire to use an electronic charger for all devices is the result of an initiative to reduce waste produced by obsolete chargers. Indeed, on average 11,000 tons of waste are produced per year, which represents a fairly large quantity.

Now gone is the hassle of finding the right charger or tedious searches in drawers intertwined with 15 chargers.

When you suddenly find yourself without a battery and have forgotten at home or misplaced your charger, asking those around you for the right charger will now be history.  The legislation requiring all new electronic devices to be equipped with a universal charger was validated on Tuesday 4 October 2022. Of the 623 MPs who took part in the vote, 602 were in favour of bringing this legislation into force, 13 expressed their opposition and 8 MPs abstained. From autumn 2024, all companies selling electronic devices will have to equip their device with USB type-C ports. This is regardless of whether or not you buy a digital camera, mobile phone or game console.

A tablet, a digital camera, an e-reader, a headset or a portable speaker as consumers we will have to have a USB type-C cable. Regarding the manufacture of new computers, the deadline for the implementation of this legislation is in 2026.
